Mandai, northern Singapore, about 30 minutes from the city
Known locally as the Mandai Zoo, it sits on the edge of Upper Seletar Reservoir and is famous for open, naturalistic enclosures with hundreds of animal species. Next door in the Mandai wildlife area are the Night Safari, River Wonders and Bird Paradise, so it is easy to fill a whole day.
Getting there: Book hourly disposal and your driver waits while you visit several parks.
Marina Bay
Giant Supertrees, the Flower Dome and the misty Cloud Forest with its indoor waterfall. Stay for the free light and sound show in the Supertree Grove in the evening.
Getting there: A short point-to-point ride from most city hotels.
Marina Bay
The city skyline, the SkyPark observation deck, the waterfront promenade, shopping and restaurants. The Merlion and the Esplanade are across the bay.
Getting there: Good for evening drop-offs and pick-ups after dinner.
Marina Centre
A 165-metre observation wheel opened in 2008. Each air-conditioned capsule holds up to 28 people, and one full rotation takes about 30 minutes, with views across the bay and on clear days as far as Malaysia and Indonesia.
Getting there: Combine it with Gardens by the Bay in one short charter.
Sentosa island, south of the city
Beaches, Universal Studios Singapore, the aquarium, water parks, cable cars and resort hotels. Cars can drive straight onto the island.
Getting there: Ask for an MPV or mini bus for families and groups.
Changi Airport
The glass dome connected to the airport terminals, with the Rain Vortex indoor waterfall, a forest valley, shops and food. Worth a stop before an evening flight.
